I would kill for a year of peace, and I have. A lot. Maybe try and instigate a war? Go attack some random caravans. A 15 minute battle will give you 50-60 renown sometimes especially with the perk. If I were you I'd pick the smallest nation, especially if the borders don't touch, and just force a war or get renown anyway trying.
Completely disagree. The "grind" is an essential part of the game and its what makes mount and blade. First 50 renown is easy to get "Grinding" for it makes you learn the different aspects and features of the game. Are you going to keep on fighting looters, solo or are you going to build your company asap?

Also heavy infantries still die fast to a larger pack of militias with shield and basic weapons, they are cheap to produce. A lot things weren't making much sense. Guide. I figured out a way to get a first city without declaring war on an existing large kingdom which usually will proceed to smack you down - rebellions! When a city rebels it is usually starving, so siege it while carrying a lot of food until the archer units starve. Then attack. Don't build too many siege weapons as they consume your units.
